How to become a marine general.
(It should be noted that the process of becoming a general in the Marine Corps is comparable to that of any other armed forces.)While the numbers may differ, the philosophy remains unchanged.)
Long hours, hard work, a little luck with assignments, and did I mention hard work?
You must first be an officer in the Marine Corps before you can become a general. This indicates that you must first receive a Marine Corps commission.A Marine Corps officer commission can be obtained in one of several ways:
Cross-commission from one of the other service academies (I had several friends who cross-commissioned from my class into the Marine Corps) Officer Candidate School (OCS) Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) Enlisted Commissioning Program (ECP) Marine Enlisted Commission Education Program (MECEP) Once you are a commissioned officer in the Marine Corps, you work your way up through the ranks by doing your job to the best of your ability and beyond. Cross-commission from one of theYou look for things to do in your job that will make it work better and more efficiently after you have completed everything that you are required to do.
We were also taught a few other things by generals about how they got to where they were:
Put your faith in the Service to take care of you and do your job well. You should not attempt to "game" the assignment system. You will be taken care of and guided in the right direction by the Service, but the Service's needs come first. However, assignments won't necessarily set you up for failure.
Complete your PME (Professional Military Education) as soon as it is offered—yes, even after you graduate from college—as soon as you can.Instead of writing letters, try to go as often as you can as a resident.Regardless of what you are told, PME residents are generally regarded as the top officers on the base, and your PME residency record is superior to PME correspondence.
When overseas billets become available, accept them. They may occasionally be unpleasant, but when you return, they always bring good fortune.
Take advantage of the opportunities that come your way, push yourself to the limit, and have faith that the system will take care of you.
BAM, you're a general in 25 years.Congratulations.It's that easy.
